Disability Pride Month
Disability Pride Month takes place every July and is an opportunity to celebrate disability. It’s a time for individuals, families, charities and the wider community to reflect on the experiences and achievements of disabled people. Many parts of the country hold marches and events, flying the Disability Pride flag high.

We’ll be sharing inspiration and helping reduce stereotypes or stigma about disabilities and long-term health conditions.
Disability Pride Month champions the ‘social model’ of disability, which we also believe in – the idea that people are disabled by barriers in society. These can be things like not having services or equipment that a child or young person needs. Or not having support at school, to achieve a child’s full potential.
Our grants and services help disabled or seriously ill children have the same choices, quality of life and opportunities, as anyone else.

Help us celebrate Disability Pride Month by sending us a photo or video that marks a proud moment for your child or children.
It could be taking their first holiday, going through some medical treatment or something like trying a new food. Every moment matters and is unique to each child or young person.

Mark’s Moment
Our Information and Support Development Manager Mark and his wife Abby have two children, and he shares their #MomentsOfPride for their eldest, George, who is Autistic and has Global Developmental Delay.
“George is non-verbal and is starting to use his emotions board at home. He recently used the “pain” card and used the makaton sign for foot. He had indeed hurt it – and needed a hospital visit. While it was heartbreaking to know he was suffering, we were so proud he was able to tell us.”
