Discover Digital summer festival
Our Discover Digital summer festival is back- running from Monday 3 August to Friday 14 August. Sign up and secure your free places today!
Designed for disabled and seriously ill children, and their families, our Discover Digital summer festival is completely free. Created to bring families together to experience a fun and engaging experience from the comfort of your own home.
We’ll have a whole host of new and exciting live workshops to enjoy and take part in, where you can meet other families. We’re also introducing on-demand sessions for the first time this year- so you can access all the workshops you want in your own time, and at your own pace.
Sign up for as many sessions as you like. Spaces within live sessions are limited so register below to find out when sign ups open. You can join all workshops from any device: Android tablet, iPad, smartphone or computer. Sessions are led by a qualified trainer with our Family Fund team on hand to support. All sessions will run via Zoom.
This year’s creative summer workshops include:
In this workshop we’ll explore how to use a trusted AI tool as your ‘robot story writing assistant’! We’ll work with Canva AI to create a story, characters and a background, and turn it into an illustrated storybook.
Explore the basics of 3D design where we’ll use Tinkercad to create and move objects, use the Scribble Tool to design unique creations, and build imaginative scenes using a variety of ready-made elements. We’ll learn about building 3D spaces, how to arrange and manipulate objects, and how to save and share our designs.
In this creative coding session, we’ll design and build our own Snake game using Scratch. We’ll create custom backgrounds and characters, and bring them to life with code. We’ll also learn how to debug and fix common problems, and discover how to save, and share, completed games with friends and family.
In this hands-on session, we’ll create our own stop-motion animation using LEGO figures (or any other items you like!) and the Stop Motion Studio app. We’ll plan a simple story and bring our characters to life using animation techniques such as onion skinning, to create smooth movement. Once the animation is complete, we’ll save it to our device, enhance it in Canva with text, credits and music, and create a finished video ready to share with family and friends.
Explore your inner DJ and create and produce your own original song. We’ll explore different styles of music, experiment with loops and put this together to create a piece of music for you to sing and dance to.
In this session you’ll create your own digital mini-magazine about a topic you love. You’ll learn how to design an exciting layout, and add images, text and content that will engage your readers.
In this workshop we’ll take an existing image and remix it into a piece of digital art, using the free Sketchbook app. We’ll start with a picture of ourselves, a pet or a family member, and use the drawing tools to send them on an artistic adventure. The end result will be your very own piece of hand-drawn art- a great keepsake.
Get ready to plan, film and edit your own short video. In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to record clips or use ready-made footage, then cut everything together to tell your story. Add stickers, text, sounds, filters and transitions to give your video your own style. Then create a finished clip you can share with family and friends.
