The Discover Digital Summer Festival is almost back for 2026! Make a note of the dates for this years festival as it will run from Monday 3 August to Friday 14 August.
As well as a whole host of new and exciting workshops, we will be introducing on demand sessions where families can access this year in their own time and at their own pace. The live workshops will still be there for those that want to take part alongside others and have some serious summer fun!
What is new for 2026?
This year, families can discover:
In this workshop we’ll explore how to use a trusted AI tool as your “robot story writing assistant”!
We’ll work with Canva AI to create a story, characters and a background, and turn it into an illustrated storybook.
Explore the basics of 3D design where we’ll use Tinkercad to create and move objects, use the Scribble Tool to design unique creations, and build imaginative scenes using a variety of ready-made elements. We’ll learn about building 3D spaces, how to arrange and manipulate objects, and how to save and share our designs.
In this creative coding session, we will design and build our own Snake game using Scratch. We’ll create custom backgrounds and characters, and bring them to life with code. We’ll also learn how to debug and fix common problems, and discover how to save and share completed games with friends and family.
In this hands-on session, we’ll create our own stop-motion animation using LEGO figures (or any other items you like!) and the Stop Motion Studio app. We’ll plan a simple story and bring our characters to life using animation techniques such as onion skinning to create smooth movement. Once the animation is complete, we’ll save it to our device, enhance it in Canva with text, credits and music, and create a finished video ready to share with family and friends.
Explore your inner DJ and create and produce your own original song! We’ll explore different styles of music, experiment with loops and put this together to create a piece of music for you to sing and dance to!
In this session you will create your own digital mini-magazine about a topic you love! You’ll learn how to design an exciting layout, and add images, text and content that will engage your readers.
In this workshop we’ll take an existing image and remix it into a piece of digital art using the free Sketchbook app! We’ll start with a picture of ourselves, a pet or a family member, and use the drawing tools to send them on an artistic adventure, with the end result being our own piece of hand-drawn art!
Get ready to plan, film and edit your own short video! In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to record clips or use ready-made footage, then cut everything together to tell your story. Add stickers, text, sounds, filters and transitions to give your video your own style, then create a finished clip you can share with family and friends!
The Discover Digital Summer Festival is designed for disabled and seriously ill children, and their families. These sessions are provided completely free of charge and are created to bring families together and experience a fun and engaging experience from the comfort of your own home.
Families can sign up for one session, or all eight if they wish. Spaces within the live sessions will be limited so register below to find out when sign ups open.
Families will be able to join all workshops from any device: Android tablet, iPad, smartphone or computer. Sessions will be led by a qualified trainer with the Family Fund team on hand to support. All sessions will run via Zoom.
