Come along to our online Discover Digital summer festival
Families are invited to our all-new, exciting creative digital skills summer workshops
School’s out for summer… time to enjoy our Discover Digital virtual festival of creative iPad skills workshops!
This August families are invited to join our free, all-new online workshops, as we throw open the gates of our virtual festival. This is a chance to come together to make friends, have fun and get new skills. We’ve got all sorts of exciting things to find out about, from coding to self-portraits, documentary making to DJ skills – it’s a line-up to please everyone.
Each hour-long workshop is led by an Apple specialist. We’ll also have a Family Fund staff member on hand to help out. Our friends at RNIB will join several sessions to support children and young people with a visual impairment.
The festival begins on Tuesday 1 August and lasts for three weeks. Come along to every workshop or pick and mix the ones your child likes best – it’s totally up to you. We’re inviting families with a disabled or seriously ill child to join in the fun. Siblings are welcome too – it’s a festival for the whole family!
To join in, you’ll need an iPad, a separate device on which to view the workshop and an internet connection.
The importance of creative iPad skills workshops over the summer break
The school holidays can be an isolating and expensive time of year for families with disabled children, with many of the usual chances to socialise paused. This programme of free online workshops means families can come together to enjoy creative activities in a friendly atmosphere.
81% of parents or carers of previous attendees reported their child’s wellbeing had benefitted from the creative iPad skills workshops. 71% said siblings and other family members, including parents, had also found them beneficial.
“It’s a joy seeing the originality and talent on display, as well as the sense of achievement on the faces of the young people.
Many disabled children may not be able to access group play and leisure facilities within the school holidays. That’s why the Discover Digital summer festival is designed for them and their families to come together as a group to connect, learn and have fun.”
