Get creative, learn new skills and have fun

Family Fund’s creative workshops give disabled children and young people the chance to explore their creativity, build confidence and learn new digital skills in a fun and supportive online environment.

Our live online workshops cover a growing range of creative activities, from animation and digital drawing to coding, music-making, storytelling and design.

Children can follow along with practical activities, experiment with new ideas and create something of their own. They can also enjoy taking part alongside other families raising disabled or seriously ill children.

No previous experience is needed. We aim to make our sessions friendly, welcoming and accessible, so children can take part in a way that works for them.

What can your child discover?

There is always something different to try. Depending on our upcoming programme, your child could:

• learn to code their own game or interactive creation
• create digital drawings and artwork
• make animations and short videos
• design characters, objects and 3D creations
• experiment with music, sounds and loops
• create their own stories using digital tools and AI
• explore creative software such as Scratch, Canva and Sketchbook

Our workshops are designed around doing rather than just watching. Trainers demonstrate each activity step by step and give children the opportunity to follow along, experiment and put their own personality into what they create.

Designed with disabled children in mind

We know that joining an activity can feel very different for every child.

Our online creative workshops are designed to provide a supportive environment where children can participate without the pressures that can sometimes come with attending activities in person.

Joining from home means your child can take part in a familiar environment, use their own device and accessibility settings, and have a parent or carer nearby if they need support.

We also understand that not every child will want to speak, appear on camera or interact in the same way. Taking part is more important than performing. Children can engage with the session in the way that feels most comfortable for them.

What to expect from an online workshop

Before you book, we’ll tell you what the workshop involves, what device or software you will need and anything you should prepare beforehand.

During the session, our trainer will guide children through the activity step by step. Sessions are designed to be relaxed and encouraging, with opportunities to ask questions and get help along the way.

Most importantly, there is no expectation that everyone’s finished creation will look the same. We want children to experiment, explore their own ideas and enjoy the process of making something.

We understand that children learn at different paces and for those that need a recap or may not be able to focus for the full session length, an on demand video is provided to ensure nobody misses out.

More than just a fun activity

Creative technology can be a great way for children and young people to discover interests and abilities they may want to explore further.

Through our workshops, children can practise digital skills while also developing creativity, problem-solving and confidence using technology.

A workshop might be their first experience of coding, animation, digital design or making music on a computer. We hope it gives them the confidence to keep experimenting long after the session has finished.

Who can take part?

Our creative workshops are for children and young people from families raising a child with additional needs.

Individual workshops may be aimed at different ages, abilities or interests, so check the information on the workshop page before booking.

You don’t need to already know how to use the software featured in the session. Workshops are designed to help children discover something new, and we’ll explain what you need before you join.

Workshops can also be accessed by siblings, parents, carers and grandparents making them a great family activity.

A parent, carer or another adult can support their child during the session where needed.
