Family Fund Mobility Support Programme comes to an end

The Family Fund Mobility Support Programme, which provided grants for car leases to families with disabled or seriously ill children under the age of three, closed to new applications at 9am today (6 January 2026). 

The Programme will come to a permanent end in February, when our Grant Delivery team have assessed the final applications.

Since its start in 2018, the Family Fund Mobility Support programme transformed travel for more than 1,800 families with very young children with high mobility needs, bridging the gap until families could apply for the main Motability Scheme. 

Family Fund Mobility Support was made possible by charitable funding grants from Motability Foundation.  We’d like to say a huge thank you to them for their financial support over the past eight years, which allowed us to offer this ground-breaking programme for families.

Why are you closing this programme?

The funding for this programme has come to an end.

I have a car lease funded through the Family Fund Mobility Support Programme.  Will I have to give my car back early?

No.  If you already have a car lease, you will not be affected.  Your car lease will continue for its full length. Motability Operations, who operate the car lease, will be in touch with you soon to confirm this.

I applied before 6 January.  Will I still get a grant for a car lease?

The Family Fund Grant Delivery Team will assess all applications received before 9am on 6 January 2026 in the order we received them.  We will award a car lease to eligible applicants until all the funding is allocated.   If you applied before the closing date, you do not need to do anything further.  We will contact you by 9 January 2026 to let you know whether or not we are able to offer you a car lease.

Will Family Fund be running a similar programme in the future?

We know that the Family Fund Mobility Support Programme made a big difference to families with young disabled and seriously ill children.  If we can find funding, we would like to run a similar programme in the future.  However, until this happens, we have no firm plans to open the programme again.
