Discussing Family Fund’s impact with the UK Minister for Children and Families

Last week we met with the UK Minister for Children and Families, Josh MacAlister MP.

Our Director of Partnerships, Public Affairs and Family Outcomes, Andy Harper, outlined the range of work we do from providing grants and services to families raising disabled and seriously ill children on a low income, to how we make sure that families’ needs and shared experiences day to day are front and centre in all  our research and policy work.

We receive vital funding from the Department for Education for our ‘Support for Families with Disabled Children’ programme – providing wide-ranging grants for the things families tell us they need most for their children to ease daily pressure, improve quality of life and create opportunities.

Andy highlighted the increasing challenges for families raising disabled and seriously ill children on low incomes, including rising household costs, a lack of respite or break for parent carers and struggles to access the bespoke support children need. He said:

“It was a very positive discussion, and Minister MacAlister will be following up by meeting families we support in his Whitehaven and Workington constituency to gain more insight into challenges faced and why support is crucial now, more than ever.”
