Discover Digital summer festival is back Tuesday 30 July 

Our friendly and interactive festival is a great chance for children to learn new skills, socialise and have a good time during summer holidays.

We’ve got a range of brand new, exciting workshops coming up: from creating your own badge (to show the world what makes you special) to getting the party started by remixing your favourite song, or learning how to vlog about your favourite topic. 

More inclusive than ever 

This year, all children can access all sessions, no matter their age, abilities, and experiences. We also made three of our festival workshops multiplatform, so children can join the session from the device most suited to them (Android tablet, iPad or PC).

Each session will be one hour long, with a qualified trainer leading it, and a Family Fund staff member to support.

The festival begins on Tuesday 30 July and will run for three weeks until Thursday 15 August. We’ll run two sessions a day for three days a week. And the best part is that you can book on as many as you like. 

A festival to boost skills and confidence over the summer break 

The school holidays can be an isolating and expensive time of year for families raising disabled and seriously ill children, with many of the usual chances to socialise paused. This programme of free online workshops means families can come together to enjoy creative activities in a friendly atmosphere from the comfort of home. 

Nina is ten years old. Last year she attended some of our Discover Digital summer festival workshops. Her mum, Natasha says, “Nina learnt lots of new things from the workshops. She really enjoyed it and kept at it even after the sessions had finished. I was surprised at how quickly she picked everything up. 

“Nina has learnt skills  she can take away with her. She also gained more confidence in herself and her ability to use technology. She was really proud of what she created and showed everything to family and friends. 

“Occupying the children can be expensive during the holidays. This festival helped to keep Nina busy. It was something she looked forward to and it sparked an interest in new things. It also helped to reduce the number of arguments amongst the children at home. As a result, the festival took away some of the stress of looking after children during the summer holidays.

It also encouraged positive interactions between the siblings.
