A grant that gave us more family time

One-year-old Delilah was born with a very rare and complex condition, where some of her abdominal and pelvic organs were on the outside of her body.

Her mum, Casey, says, “To make caring for Delilah as easy as possible, I involve her big brother, Toby, as though it’s a game. He loves to help out, but some days Toby will say, ‘you don’t play with me’, and I feel guilty. There is a lot of time that goes into caring for Delilah, and her hospital appointments are a six-hour round trip.

“I applied to Family Fund for a dishwasher. Now it takes me two minutes to load the dishwasher after tea. Toby and I do it together, which gives him time to interact with me. As soon as it’s loaded, it’s play time!

The dishwasher has allowed us to have 20 to 30 minutes more family time together each evening.
