Adeola dreads Christmas time. Her daughter, Elizabeth, has sickle cell anaemia. If Elizabeth becomes too cold or spends too much time outside, she can go into crisis and sometimes, needs to be rushed into hospital.
“Elizabeth is desperate to play outside with her friends for longer. She wants to build snowmen, like every child should. But she needs to stay warm. So I do everything I can to keep her and her brother happy indoors. When I can afford to, I buy toys to keep her entertained inside. I’ll even let her ride her scooter inside if it means she is warm!”
Adeola was saving for a laptop for Elizabeth, to keep her entertained indoors, and a bed, to replace their old and broken one and keep warm over the winter months. Everything changed when she heard about Family Fund, and received a grant for a laptop and a bed.
“The laptop from Family Fund keeps Elizabeth entertained and happy indoors, playing games and watching videos. It’s such a relief for me. Family Fund also replaced our bed, so when Elizabeth is poorly, she can sleep with me.”
