No family should have to choose between heating, eating, and caring for their child. Our latest report highlights the reality of life for families raising disabled or seriously ill children.

“My kids need what they need” – Additional family costs for meeting the everyday needs of children on the autism spectrum

Children on the autism spectrum and their families face high financial costs. This study helped us gain a greater understanding of those costs and the pressure they place on families.

As part of our partnership with McCain, we did research into the barriers families raising a disabled, or seriously ill, child face to spending quality family moments together. The report shows the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on families' quality time together.

As part of our partnership with McCain, we did ‘raising kids’ research to better understand the challenges families raising disabled children face compared with families raising non-disabled children.

The cost of caring 2022

Our research from 2022 shows that UK families raising disabled, or seriously ill, children and young people are now facing serious financial jeopardy and struggling to survive, due to the scale of the cost-of-living crisis.

Educational, health and care plans

One of the things families raising a disabled child say they are most concerned about is their children’s education. As part of our ongoing relationship with the Department for Education , we have included topical questions about family’s experiences of education, health and care plans in England in our regular Family Poll.
