Partnering for change

Our vision is for families raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person to have the same choices, quality of life, opportunities and aspirations as other families. Achieving that vision will mean that the support landscape for families has to change – and we can’t achieve that alone.

We work in partnership with families, children and young people, and with a wide range of other organisations, to identity the issues that matter to families. We influence policy-makers, funders and others to make positive changes.

Charities we work with include: Contact, Good Things Foundation, Cerebra, KIDS, National Autistic Society, Scope, Sense, Together for Short Lives, The National Care Organisations in Scotland, and Newlife.

Campaigns we have supported include:

• The Disabled Children’s Partnership’s #SENDABetterMessage campaign. The campaign calls on the Government to use its SEND reform programme to create a fairer system of support for disabled children and families. It asks for support that is easier to navigate so families can access services they’re entitled to.
• The End Child Poverty Coalition. The coalition works to inform the public about the causes and effects of child poverty. It forges commitment between, and across, the public, private and voluntary sectors to end child poverty. Finally, it promotes the case for ending child poverty with Government.
• The #DebtRelief Campaign, led by Aberlour and The Robertson Trust. An anti-poverty coalition of 50 organisations, charities and campaigners supports this campaign. It calls for a pause on public debt recovery in Scotland for those on the lowest incomes during the cost of living crisis.
• The Guarantee Our Essentials campaign, co-ordinated by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Trussell Trust. This calls on the UK Government to make sure the basic rate of benefits covers life’s essentials. And that support is never pulled below that level.

Other partnerships

As well as our work to influence support for families, we partner with organisations in other ways.

Our partnership with McCain has led to a number of high profile campaigns. They capture the importance of family mealtimes, and raise awareness of our work to help families raising a disabled child.
