About us
We are the largest independent grant-giving organisation helping low-income families caring for a disabled child. Find out about who we are, what we do and how you can get in touch with us.
Families we've helped
Six year old Tommy has cerebral palsy. When he moved into his new house with mum and dad the garden was completely overgrown. They applied to the Family Fund for help with gardening and received money towards fencing, a sandpit and some sensory equipment. Together with landscaping work from dad, the garden has been transformed. "You can’t believe it’s the same place" says mum. "It’s so private with the fencing and Tommy just loves being in the garden now".

The Family Fund is a registered charity covering the whole of the UK and mainly funded by the national governments of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Find out about our trustees, our staff and our charity.
Families we've helped
Life changed for mum Natalie when Tyler was diagnosed with Williams syndrome at one year old. "Tyler’s condition has had a tremendous effect on family life", says mum. "Tyler has a weak immune system, he has had pneumonia seven times and we were told at Christmas 2008 that he would die". Tyler’s condition has left mum on high alert to every cough, cold or sniffle and it has left Tyler afraid of hospitals. The first grant the Fund gave was for a washing machine. Mum says “There isn’t words to describe what you do. You do more good than you realise”.
What we do
Last year the Fund made a difference to the lives of around 56,700 families across the UK with over £32 million in grants that relate to the needs of their disabled child or young person.
Families we've helped
Seven year old Liam has Amniotic band disruption and severe asthma. He finds it very hard to walk distances and becomes stiff if he sits for a long time. It has been a real struggle for the whole family as they have had to work round Liam’s condition. Liam loves swimming and cycling so it was the Family Fund’s latest grant for bicycles for the whole family that has really made a difference. "We can do things and feel good as a family now and not be stuck indoors. We go on picnics and even if I want to walk anywhere, Liam can ride beside me on his bike."
Annual review

Families we've helped
Mum and dad have five children, three of whom have severe and complex neuro-disabilities. Ali has epilepsy, visual impairment and severe learning difficulties, Amellia has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, microcephaly and severe learning difficulties and Zain has cerebral palsy, visual impairment and severe global delay. Over the years the we have supported the family with a washing machine and tumble dryer, driving lessons for Mum so she can take the children to hospital appointments and a much-needed family break.

Through joint working and our administrative services we help charities and other organisations to make the most of their funding and improve efficiency.
Families we've helped
Help from the Family Fund comes in various innovative forms which can help not just a disabled child, but also their brothers and sisters to get more out of life. The Fund’s latest award – a Wii, has added a new dimension to Lucy's family life. “We have a bowling game, a fishing game and the High School Musical dancing game on the Wii” says mum. “It’s the best way we can all play together as a family.”

Families we've helped
Kiera’s mother died when she was three months old and she is now cared for by her grandma. Now six, Kiera has a cleft palate and reflux problems and is very prone to chest and ear infections. Her grandma couldn’t drive and had difficulty getting to hospital appointments but life changed when the Family Fund paid for a course of up to 45 driving lessons. “I was 56 when I started and passed after 5 months. Appointments don’t present any problems now. My life has opened up in a way I could never have imagined."

Families we've helped
Mohammed has spina bifida, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus and sickle cell anaemia - he finds it difficult to walk long distances and needs extra support when out and about. Mum says "We hadn’t had a break for so long and thanks to the Family Fund we were able to get away together as a family." Mohammed also needs extra support with school work and with the family’s latest grant of a computer, Dad is now able to help Mohammed with his homework and to catch up on lessons.
