Family poll
To help us understand, and track, the changing needs and challenges families on low-incomes are facing to raise disabled children, we undertake a quarterly family poll.
Quarterly poll
Our quarterly family poll helps us gain a detailed understanding of the reality of lives for families. Particularly what extra costs families are facing, and the financial difficulties they are finding themselves in. It also helps show what families are being forced to go without, and how all this impacts on their wellbeing.
Findings are used to:
- Help inform the range of grants and services we provide
- Raise better awareness of the voices of families we support
- Influence government policy.
The latest family poll findings
In September 2023 we invited families across the UK raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person to take part in our Family poll. We asked about the wellbeing of disabled or seriously ill children, their non disabled siblings, and their and parents/carers. Also, parent/carers shared about their experiences of support for their disabled child in their educational placement. We particularly looked at:
- How this impacted on the parent/carers ability to work
- If additional costs for disabled children in taking part in education arose. If they did, what was the impact on the family of meeting these additional costs
- The financial implications for the family about transitioning from children’s to adult’s services.
