The Minister for Children and Families has decided to extend the SEND Tribunal Trial to August 2021, due to the impact of Coronavirus.

The Department for Education’s trial began in April 2018 to extend the powers of the SEND Tribunal to hear appeals, and make non-binding decisions about, health and social care aspects of Education, Health and Care plans.

The trial was due to end on 31 August 2020 but as Coronavirus has added extra pressures for families and local authorities the trial has now been extended until 31 August 2021. The decision was made after discussions with a range of organisations supporting children with special education needs and disabilities, parents and those representing local authorities.

Vicky Ford MP, Minister for Children and Families, has written to Directors of Children’s Services to provide further details. Click here to read the full letter.
