Chris' volunteering story Name: Chris Where do you live? York Role: Office volunteer Tell us a bit about yourself… I’m 44, born in York, but lived in Sheffield and Nottingham, where I studied Fine Art at University. I have a three year old daughter called Sophie and a rescue greyhound called Tomtom. I have been volunteering with Family Fund for nine months. Why did you start volunteering for Family Fund? I am recovering from an anxiety disorder and was shown a Family Fund advertisement by a care worker from First Response, an organisation that aims to get unemployed people back into the workplace. I had been seeking a voluntary role in the charity sector in Administration. What is your role and what do you most enjoy about it? My role, supporting other members of the Fundraising team, is varied and has involved making up activity packs, inputting data to the Salesforce database, researching SEN Schools in the area, amongst other things. I enjoy the variety and being part of a grateful team. What would you recommend about volunteering to others? Volunteering is a rewarding way of contributing to a good cause, meeting new people and using my skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
