The words ‘spending time with you’ could mean so much. Usually they mean that I will spend time with you - the one that I care for and love.  They also mean that I will sacrifice my time, and spend it all with you.  ‘You’ could be your friend, your partner, your children or your pets. 

I am sure you have often told someone this. 

However, today I am going to turn the meaning of these words around, and make it mean something different. I am sure you are wondering what on earth I am talking about?  Today, ‘spending time with you’ means spending time with yourself. 

What do I have to do to get that moment? And when I have that moment, what do I do with it?

Being a single parent, it is not always easy to find time for yourself, and it can be draining when you eventually get to a point where you are so exhausted that you literally feel like you can’t cope.  Having a child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and special needs can also prevent any opportunities for time with you.

If there is one valuable lesson to learn from life, it is making YOU a priority, and by doing this I mean ensuring that you make that moment possible when you have time to enjoy the things you love.  Spending time with yourself is equally important as spending time with your loved ones.

If you don’t get time with yourself as often as you need it, how will you be able to be energised and refreshed and happy to be able to support your loved ones and children?

I make it my priority daily to take five minutes to be still, and either mediate, be mindful or relax. Sometimes that’s all you need to recoup, and take a few deep breathes to get refreshed. 

It does take some self-discipline to make sure you are taking time out for yourself. When you are used to taking that time, find something you love doing for a little longer. I love exercise, so this is my time. I exercise daily, as I find it really energises me.  I also enjoy listening to inspirational podcasts and watching videos from mentors that I follow.

I often found that I used to take time out and feed it with negative energy, therefore, not really using it wisely.  Now when I have time to myself, I use it wisely by trying to fill it with positive things, and always make sure I feel happy and relaxed afterwards. 

Love yourself by spending time with yourself. It is worth it in the end, even if it does take the initial struggle to find the time to do it.
