In April, Rachel got in touch with an idea. She wanted to combine all the things she’s passionate about into one fundraiser; raising awareness about autism, Family Fund, and colour.

As Rachel was thinking through ideas she approached the Fundraising Team, “I applied for a fundraising pack and started by doing a few plans at home. I really wanted to do something that involved people, whilst still being Covid safe.”

So, to coincide with Autism Awareness Day, ‘RainBeau day’ was created! The aim, for one day only, was to be as colourful as possible. Rachel encouraged friends and family to wear their brightest rainbow colours, whether it be a whole outfit, socks, shoes, whatever they had!

Rachel set up a JustGiving page to collect donations from supporters and raised an impressive £887. She explained “Beau brings so much joy to our lives and everyone he meets. He has opened us up to world of autism. Additional needs shouldn’t be taboo, we shouldn’t be trying to put round plugs into square holes. In a world where you can be yourself, why should you be anything else?”

When we asked Rachel why she chose to support Family Fund she said that she wanted “to raise money for a charity and awareness for children with disabilities. I found that Family Fund is a charity who not only supports disabled children, but their families too, who usually get overlooked. It was a no brainer for me to fundraise for Family Fund, they are all round amazing!”

“My top tip to make sure your event is successful is, do something you’re passionate about that can involve every one of all ages. Then all you have to do is spread the word far and wide!”

If Rachel, and Beau’s story has inspired you to fundraise for a worthy cause, then find out how you can get involved here.
