Family Fund is the UK’s largest charity providing grants for families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people – providing over 88,000 grants and services worth over £33 million last year. We are continuing to adapt to the impact of Coronavirus and are doing everything we can to ensure we provide this essential grant support when it is needed the most. Joining the team at this time, you will play a vital role in supporting our families and customers making this a hugely invaluable and rewarding opportunity.

As an Applications Officer, you will be pivotal to delivering grant support to families, completing all aspects of application processing, from initial administration of paper and digital forms through to delivery of grant decisions and support to families, in line with Family Fund processes, guidelines and policies. Now, more than ever, people are in need of the support and relief these grants provide, making this is a valuable and rewarding role.

Main duties include:

  • Inputting all details of applications received onto the Family Fund database, with speed and accuracy, within performance targets.
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing post.
  • Communicating in a suitable manner with families and third parties adhering to process and guidelines.
  • Providing information and assistance to all families/customers, appropriate to the enquiry.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of processes and policies for grants and services.
  • Making decisions on help for families using the organisation’s policies.
  • Using the most effective communications media in a professional manner when dealing with families and others.

You must have fast and accurate data entry and keyboard skills coupled with good written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, pro-active and driven to succeed. You will have experience of working in a process-orientated environment and criteria-based decision-making. You will come with the confidence to deal with application queries from families over the phone. You should be a well-organised team player and will be joining an environment where everyone supports one another. At a time when many are facing uncertainty it is hugely important you are able to remain calm, perform well under pressure and work effectively towards timely deadlines in order to provide the level of support that is required at this time.

This post is based at the charity’s offices in Monks Cross in York. The charity has effectively adapted both working practices and the physical working environment to ensure the health and safety of all office staff, which is of paramount importance during these times.
