Fifty years of Family Fund

How we began

Our journey started in 1973. Fifty years, and more than one and a half million grants later, we are still providing vital support to families raising a disabled child.

Here and now

See the difference our grants have been making for 50 years, in these messages families shared with us for our birthday:

Today, families raising a disabled or seriously ill child face substantial challenges. Caring costs can be up to three times higher, than for other families. Many parents and carers have growing debt, due to the high cost of living, and some support services have been withdrawn or reduced following the global health pandemic.

Whether it’s a grant for a washing machine, much-needed bedding, soothing sensory toys, or the chance to make special memories through a family break, Family Fund continues to provide the support that families need, to make day-to-day life easier.

The next chapter

Our strategy for 2023 to 2028 focuses on ‘being there’ for families, when they need us most – as we have done throughout our fifty years. The key themes of the strategy are to:

• Deliver essential help to families
• Grow our support – to do more, for more families
• Partner with families and others, to create positive change
• Enable our team to work at their best
