Zach, 13, lives in Surrey with his mum Lorraine. Last year, he was invited as a Family Fund beneficiary to meet former Minister of State for Children and Families, Edward Timpson at one of our events.  After learning of his love of cars, the MP invited him to visit the headquarters of Bentley Motors.

“It was Zach who brought up his love of cars. He had some of his drawings with him, and they were of supercars, so Mr Timpson immediately struck up the offer of going to Crewe to see where Bentleys are made.”

“The Edward Timpson visit came at a hard time. My son was out of school for a year and two months at that point. It was an incredible offer, and when we were then contacted by the Bentley factory it was amazing. We were so happy.”

“Family Fund paid for us to travel there, because it is a rather long way to go. When we arrived, we were greeted by the Government Relations Manager who invited us to look around the Bentley museum, and then let us sit in one of their new cars and go for a test drive! When we got back to the showroom they gave Zach a little Bentley model to take home.”

The trip came as a welcome relief to Zach and his mum. “They were so incredible. We came out of there and I was actually crying. I was speechless. Before we left we drove around the factory a few more times to see where all the cars are stored.”

“It just goes to show that you can always turn a negative into a positive. When Zach was out of school it was such a negative, but now he is back to school and he is doing brilliantly. We wouldn’t be in this place if it hadn’t been for us being given these opportunities by Family Fund. I’m so grateful for everything.”

“Anybody thinking about applying to Family Fund should do it. The people there are all so friendly, and are willing to answer all the questions that you don’t have the answers to. It’s about having new experiences. You might not know what you are going to use your grant for, but it is going to be something new and it is going to be something extraordinary.”
