The first ever BAPS (Bloody Awesome Parents) SEND Blog Awards are taking place on Thursday 18 May in Coventry. These awards have been set up by My Family, Our Needs, a website for parents, carers, and practitioners, and Bringing Us Together, a community of parents of disabled children and young people who champion and promote SEND bloggers.

The BAPS are the first blog awards to celebrate special educational needs and disability (SEND) specifically. They believe that parents and carers of children with additional needs deserve to be recognised along with those who tirelessly inform and support them. The BAPS celebrate SEND bloggers for their talents, stories and their families – from the everyday to the exceptional, showcasing their valuable contribution to raising awareness of additional needs, both within the SEND community and the wider society.

We are very happy that both Tina and Lynne, our Family Fund bloggers, have been nominated in the newcomer category, and Lauren, creator of Square Peg Clothing, has been nominated in the practical support for families category.

The evening will be hosted by actress and writer Sally Phillips, who recently fronted the BBC2 documentary A World without Down’s Syndrome? Sally said, ”I’m delighted to be hosting the BAPS Awards - as an avid reader of SEN blogs and as someone who has been standing on the shoulders of some wonderful SEN parent bloggers in the national media over the past year, it’s my privilege and great pleasure to try and give something back.

“These Awards allow SEN bloggers to be recognised for their talents, their stories and their families, and on their terms.  I’m really looking forward to a great night out with the SEN community, who don’t always get out as much as others, but really know how to let their hair down when they do.
