What is it?

On 11 February, at 11am, we asked people across the country to help raise money for our work by hosting a spot of elevenses for friends, family, colleagues – whoever you wanted to have round! The aim is to have hundreds of bake sales and tea parties taking place. However, if you still want to join in, your party can happen any time in February.

Why are we doing it?

Last year, we supported over 72,000 families with grants and services. But with around 900,000 families across the UK raising a disabled or seriously ill child, we know there’s still more we can do, but we need your support to help us raise the money to do so.

By asking people to join in by paying for a cup of tea and a cake, it gives lots of people a chance to raise a little bit of money. And a lot of little contributions can go a very long way.

11 February is Great Family Fund Tea Party day, but if you cannot host your party on that day pick another date that suits you best.  If you can do it some other time in February, that is fantastic.

Tell all your friends, family and work colleagues about your Great Family Fund Tea Party, you can even set this up as an event on your Facebook page and invite people that way.

We have created a pack of materials to help sprinkle a bit of extra magic on your party. It includes recipes, cake flags, bunting, posters, doilies, donations box, selfie props and more. You can view and download the pack here.  The materials pack is A4 to make it easy for you to download the PDF and print it on a normal home printer. Then you just need to cut out and construct the pieces to have a Family Fund-filled tea party!

Raising the dough

Use your collection box to encourage people to make a donation for every cake or baked good or just for attending.  Ask everyone if they would like to complete the donation form and tick the Gift Aid box when they make a donation to allow Family Fund to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated, at no extra cost to you or the donor.  This makes a huge difference in raising more money to support families with disabled children.

After the party

Thank everyone who has attended the event and helped raise vital funds. Send your donation form with Gift Aid boxes ticked along with a cheque made payable to 'Family Fund' from any of the money raising through your collection box to:

The Great Family Fund Tea Party
Family Fund
Unit 4, Alpha Court,
Monks Cross Drive,
YO32 9WN

If you raise money via your online appeal page, please still fill out a donation form and send in so we can claim the Gift Aid.  All money raised online will come directly to Family Fund.  If you did not set up an appeal page and want to donate online, follow the instructions on our donate page.

We will get back in touch with you to confirm receipt of your donation and to see how it all went for you.

Don’t forget to send us pictures of your Tea Party on the day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  We can’t wait to see your tea cup selfies!

How do I raise money at my Great Family Fund Tea Party?

Just ask your guests to make a donation for the tea and cake you serve. You can also have a lot of fun raising money with competitions and raffles on your Great Family Fund Tea Party.  Don't forget to download and fill out your donation form and get your donors to tick the Gift Aid box.

What date is The Great Family Fund Tea Party?

In 2016, the official Tea Party date is Thursday 11 February, but you can of course hold yours on whatever date is most convenient for you and your guests.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a Government scheme that enables charities to claim the tax that supporters have already paid on their donations. To allow us to claim this back you must be a UK taxpayer and have paid sufficient income and/or capital gains tax to cover the amount Family Fund will reclaim in each tax year.

This means that Family Fund is able to reclaim tax on voluntary donations made by your Tea Party guests once they have:

  • Made an individual donation
  • Filled in all the spaces on your Gift Aid sheet (which you can download)
  • Ticked that all-important Gift Aid box!

Gift Aiding your donation, means we can increase your guests’ donations by 25p for every £1 without costing them another penny!

Where do I send my Gift Aid form?

Once the sheet is filled in, you can send it back to:

The Great Family Fund Tea Party
Family Fund
Unit 4, Alpha Court,
Monks Cross Drive,
YO32 9WN

Will I receive anything to acknowledge my donation?

Yes. You’ll receive a thank you letter from us within a few weeks of receiving your donation.

What are your fundraising standards?

You can read our Fundraising Promise to find out more about our fundraising standards.
