Family Fund, the UK’s largest grant making charity to low income families raising disabled or seriously ill children celebrates its 40 birthday this year.

In 2012/13, the Fund helped 64,020 families with more than £33 million of funding, 5,000 families more than the previous year, and over a million since it began in 1973.

Family Fund receives grants from private donors as well as each of the four UK governments. All four governments have confirmed their grants for 2013/14 at the same level as 2012/13.

Family Fund is very pleased to announce that it has received the first instalment of funding for 2013/14 from the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Many thanks to the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety for the continued support going into the new financial year, and the swift payment of funding to avoid any further delays.

The winner of our colouring competition is Roxy, aged 7 from Kidderminster.

Her entry shows a fantastic use of colour and imagination and she has received her prizes and certificate in the post. Her artwork will now form part of our new 40th birthday logo along with the runners up:

2nd place - Roxana, aged 3 from Coalville, Leicestershire
3rd place - Beth, aged 9 from Manchester

4th place - Leah, aged 8 from Manchester.

Have you ever thought of a way in which we could improve the health and/or wellbeing of children or young people affected by disability?

The aim of the Childhood Disability Research Priority Setting Partnership is to identify the unanswered questions about the effectiveness of ‘interventions’ for children and young people affected by ‘neurodisability’. The project is keen to include the perspectives of young people, families and health professionals.

A report published today, commissioned by the Department for Education, has found that the Family Fund works well in delivering grants for low income families with disabled or seriously ill children.

The Family Fund was set up 40 years ago to help low-income families raising disabled or seriously ill children or young people. Last Thursday, the Fund announced a new round of £27.3 million funding to help disabled children and their families in England.

Parents of children and young adults who are disabled or seriously ill will be able to apply for a share of the £27.3 million grant fund issued to the Family Fund, the Government announced today.
