How to apply

Applications for a Family Fund grant can be made by the parent* or carer* of the disabled child or young person. Young people aged 16 and 17 can make an application in their own right.

We accept one application per household, so if you are making an application on behalf of more than one disabled child, please complete an additional child form for each child you are applying for.

*This should be the person who has parental responsibility for the child and with whom the child lives.

To make a first application:

We also need to know about any changes in your circumstances. For example:

  • Changes of name(s)
  • Changes to Disability Living Allowance awards
  • Changes in your child’s condition
  • If your child has moved to live with someone new
  • Change of bank details
  • Change of address

We may also ask you to provide additional information to support your application. All grants are discretionary and subject to available funding. We may not be able to help with everything you ask for.

How often we help

We try to help families raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person once every year. However, we do understand that sometimes the need for help can be greater, especially if there is an emergency or critical situation relating to a disabled child or young person. If this happens we try to be flexible and consider an early application. All our grants are discretionary and subject to available funding.

If you have been helped by us already, the letter we sent confirming the grant states when we can consider a further application from you. This is usually 12 months from the date of your last grant, but may be longer.

If your last application was unsuccessful, you can apply again if your circumstances have changed. And if you are unsure about when you can apply again, or you need an application form in large print please contact us.
